Christmas at Easter?

Xmas audio cover liteTalk about coincidence… Here it is, Easter, and I discover that my short story collection, Christmas Beyond the Box has just been released as an audiobook! I could not be more excited.

Production began right at the first of the year, and it has been my great good fortune to work with the astonishingly talented Paul R. Licameli who not only narrated all these stories, but masterminded their production as well. The results <no pun intended> speak for themselves. Follow this link to hear a sample (there’s a tiny, green “Play Sample” button under the cover photo):

I have done a few public readings of my own work, but until this production, I had never had an opportunity to hear someone else do it. If anything, I found the prospect somewhat unsettling. Would a random reader “get” it? Would he feel my character’s emotions? Could he convey the setting? Hell, I have a difficult time with such things in a reading — I’m usually concentrating so hard on the text, I hardly give much thought to dramatization.

But Paul put my mind at ease from the very start. He definitely gets it. In fact, he got it with every single character in every single story — and there are a bunch!

If you’ve never tried listening to an audiobook, I urge you to give this one a try. The price is paltry considering it’s for two and a half hours of entertainment. Yes, the stories are all set at Christmas time, but they can be enjoyed at any time of year — and by any member of a family. Like it says in the ad copy, these stories aren’t the typical “Nelda Knits Mittens for Kittens” or “Frosty Saves Christmas.” These tales go WAY beyond the box.

I apologize for the extended advert, but I’m just so pleased with this project, I can’t wait for everyone I know to give it a listen.

So, Happy Easter, or Christmas, or… whatever!
